Masks

Masks we all love to wear,

Putting on masks,

Blue ,red or green –

Wearing a masks which is pink,

We would like to preen

It is a bit of show-romance

You see, might even make you blush

The blue masks show happiness,

Whereas red are an epitome of anger.

Deceiving people is what we want,

Black masks to make others fear

And white proving your innocence,

But grey are the ones,

You would stay away from;

Wiggling their way through,

They break upon walls, barricading your heart,

Shattered yet at peace, intriguing though terrifying.

Holding a charade, they are wily

Make you dream of wistful emotions,

These mixture of black and white,

They show they could be real;

Baffled as they are with their nature,

Little do they know, what they have is true.

Putting on a yellow mask,

You see friendly faces filled with glee,

A green one showing you the boorish,

Caressing the jealous talons;

All I ask is why do we even wear this?

When all our emotions can be real,

Why can we not be our true selves?

  1. I am sure it’s complicated for some and wearing masks becomes a safety net. Not everyone is ‘wired’ the same inside so we all deal with life in many different ways and some times it is not possible to be our true selves, though that is a shame for we should all feel comfortable in our own skins. A thought provoking piece.
