Womanhood

We always have lots of complaints against men.We say they hurt us , they don’t understand us, they do whatever they but we can’t. I think all these things are only because our culture shaped us this way.The environment where we live wouldn’t allow to us to stay out till late at night and even if we get this chance I don’t think it would be possible for us to out everyday and come home late. Its not the fault of the males that they think us inferior, its the fault of the society which taught him to think this way .Whenever we speak about the success of a man we sa woman must have been with him, this thing works both ways sometimes even a man maybe responsible for her success. Today I’m going to speak a few men who worked for the upliftment of women.
Sometimes I imagine how my life would have been if I wouldn’t get a supportive father, such as mine.

Ishwar Chandra vidyasagar was one such man who fought against one of the strangest social group of those times, the kulin Brahmins so that the women could live happily.Those days girls were married to men almost 40-50 years older than her. This was not tolerated by him. He questioned the social authorities regarding this because in none of the shastra it was not mentioned that the girl should get married before reaching puberty. He even proposed and pushed the widow remarriage act XV in India. The widows were treated badly their heads were shaved and they had to wear white saree to avoid attraction.

If I’m discussing reformers then I can definitely not forget Raja ram mohan ROY, the founder of Brahmo Samaj.
He crusaded against social evils like sati, it is even said that he married a widow who was about to perform Sati.

Jyotirao Phule another activist along with his wife Savitribai Phule started a school for girls . He proposed widow remarriage and started a home for new born infants to prevent female foeticide.

Even now these problems exist except I suppose Sati, and the bigger problem is molestation. Nowadays females are not safe in our country specially North India. We need to encourage males who are ready to help us for our own survival otherwise it wouldn’t long before someone says” there used to delicate creatures called women in earth”. It may be late but Happy Women’s Day everyone. And my thanks to all those men who supported me till date.

  1. Meloheart;
    I like your post very much one thing which I need some clarification; in your last sentence you written

    “We need to encourage males who are ready to help us for our own survival otherwise it wouldn’t long before someone says” there used to delicate creatures called women in earth”.

    but don’t you think during this crucial time of humane age;
    “Self help is the best help” must be motto of each and every living humane being; irrespective of being male or female.
    Wishing you all the best……………………..
