India has been enslaved for many years by different dynasties and then by different European companies who came to trade but then tried to rule on us.This particular poem is based on all those heroines who fought for the nation’s freedom.

Heroine
Standing among the thronged crowd
She saw him everyday ,making a
Troll on his black stallion;
She watched him like a tigress,
Waiting to pounce on it’s prey.
Then one day as if on cue she got him alone,
In the bazaar not on his horse today she got him alone;
She was ready to jump on him the moment he turned back-
She was ready to set her claws into action.
Slowly and steadily she ran towards him,
The sound of footsteps made him face her,
Standing in front of him was the goddess of death
Standing in front of him was a lady on a mission,
Taking or giving was her choice
Killing or sparing was her choice.
“Oh mighty lady what do you want? “
He asked in a way mocking her,
She hit his head with the weapon she held
He fell near her feet;
The clouds went joyously aside
Let the sun shine bright
Changing her gloomy face to a glorious one
Changing her silence to a loud growl;
“Sir, I wouldn’t have overthrown you
If you would let my people live in peace,
If you would do business for business
Not, business to rule “.
Saying that she left the place
A bullet in his head completed the story;
Riding her horse as fast as she could
She rode towards her next destination.
Reminds me, I have to finish my reading for Indian theatre class today…this week we are doing Tughlaq by Karnad. A tough play about a confusing guy.
